It is a long way to faraway / Kauas on pitkä matka

Monday morning I boarded the first flight in Helsinki. And in no time I found myself in the Frenchieland, which was well...French :D I even manged to kill 4 hours easily on the airport. Then I met Joonas at the gate and we were off to Japan. 11h 30min flight was rather long and I could not sleep more than 15 min. Otherwise the flight was nice since there was personal display and movies in front of me. Oh and Air France still serves free wine ;) Also the food was really good. On that flight I was sitting next to an older lady from Osaka who was more rather nosy in a good way :D Managed to even speak a bit Japanese even though I noticed that I haven't been studying hard enough in the summer and I have forgotten so much words -.-

Then finally Tuesday morning local time we landed to Kansai International airport and after some queuing and paperwork we were on our way to Namba railway station. Then we roamed the city a little bit before going to the ferry terminal to wait for our ferry to Beppu. The weather was sunny and warm (about +25C). When we boarded the ferry we got a positive surprise since we had a place in a big tatami room! We thought that with the basic ticket we get a crappy chair to sit. When we got settled in we went for a hot bath (onsen), which really hit the spot. I had some muscle ache and stiffness but that was gone in few minutes. :)

Now I will go and continue my sleep. Tomorrow I will meet my friend Yuhei in Beppu. I will stay at his place for couple nights before I get my own place in Oita. Also I will meet my tutor, Takeru, in Oita and we will goto the university to check things out.

Ready to go / Valmiina lähtöön

Departure day is near already. Luckily I am now ready with preparations. Yesterday I got an international driving licence and today I went to get a visa. Also I am finished with packing. So now I can just enjoy my last weekend in Finland, which I will spend in Helsinki seeing my friends and family.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lähtö lähenee. Onneksi olen nyt saanut kaikki lähtövalmistelut tehtyä. Eilen sain kansainvälisenajokorttin ja tänään hain viisumin. Tavaratkin sain pakattua vihdoin. Joten nyt voin nautiskella viimeisesestä viikonlopusta. Vietän sen Helsingissä ystäviä ja perhettä nähden.

Hungary / Austria

FINALLY my update of the summer holiday trip. I have been so busy (and lazy) to write this, but now I decided to write at least something about the trip. This is not a day to day story just a quick story of the things that I can still remember. xD

First of all, have to say that Hungary was cheap as I expected it to be, which was really a nice thing since upcoming 6 months in Japan won’t be cheap at all. And the Hungarian food is really good, at least for my taste. Below there are couple pictures of foods with their prices.

There are lot of nice places to visit and see in Budapest. We checked out most of the basics like Buda Castle Hill, Buda Castle, Széchenyi Chain Bridge, Heroes' Square, Fisherman's Bastion, Vajdahunyad Castle and so on. All worth a visit. The only place that was a disappointment, was the transport museum, which was more about trains than cars or aviation.

Of course we went through the shopping places around the city. There are quite a few shopping malls around, but mainly they offer the same shops. Although some of the shops are bigger in Arena Plaza so there you should find biggest selection.  Mostly I found premium brand clothes only so not a great place to buy ‘cheap’ clothes. Most affordable shops (and where I bought something) were C&A, New Yorker and Deichman, all familiar from Germany.
Oh and funny thing that I found out, or at least funny for a Finn. In Budapest fanny packs are still used so if you are a rare person that loves those ugly things there is one place where you can wear them and not be laughed at. ;)

After all the shopping and walking around admiring the sights one needs to relax. On one day we went to Margit-island just to hang around and have a picnic in the park. That island is really nice place. There is a very big park (the island is more than 2km long) where you will definitely find a place where to relax. You can also rent a peddling car or an electric car to go around the island if you are tired of walking around. If it is a hot day, there is also a water park in the island.

Another day we spent relaxing at lake Velencei, 50 km south east from Budapest. You can get there with a local train quite cheaply. Train ride takes about one hour and the train goes once a hour at least in September. I think in the summer it goes more often. We went to a beach where you have to pay an entrance (530 HUF = 1,85€) but then you have dressing rooms, toilets etc. We also rented (6000 HUF/3h = 20,95€) a pedalo with a waterslide :D It was a good idea to rent it cause then we could go to deeper on the lake where you can slide or jump off from the boat. We had a really nice day on the lake, although locals thought 29C was not warm enough for a beach day :D

We also did a one day trip to Vienna. It takes about 3 hours with a train from Budapest to Vienna. You can buy a return ticket with about 31€ (student price) that also includes a ticket for public transport inside Vienna. We walked through that part of the center where are the main sightseeing places and then we took a subway to the Schönbrunn palace which was especially nice place to visit. We also visited Prater amusement park in the center. Although we did not have much time left so we only took a ride in a Ferris wheel to see nice view over the city and then ate some delicious strawberries dipped in chocolate. Vienna is so beautiful and nice city, and I will definitely visit it again.

VIHDOINKIN on aika päivittää blogia.

Tuossa alla on pari kuvaa paikallisista ruuista.

Budapestissa on monia paikkoja missä kannattaa vierailla. Kävimme useimmissa peruspaikoissa kuten esim Budan linnakukkulalla, Budan linnalla, Széchenyi-ketjusillalla, Sankareiden aukiolla, Vajdahunyad-linnassa.

Tietenkin kiersimme paljon kaupungin shoppailu paikkoja. Budapestissä on monia ostoskeskuksia, jotka tosin tarjoavat kaikki enimmäkseen samoja liikkeitä. Tosin osa liikkeistä on suurempia Arena Plazalla, joten sieltä löytyy suurimmat valikoimat. Edukkaimmat kaupat olivat Saksasta tutut C&A, New Yorker ja Deichman, joista jotain tuli ostettuakin.

Margit-saari on todella kiva paikka. Siellä on mm iso puisto joka ulottuu melkein koko saarelle (saari on yli 2km pitkä), joten sieltä löytyy varmasti itselle paikka missä lepäillä ruohikolla.

Last Friday was my last day at my great summer job at John Deere Forestry in Tampere. I Worked there as a Marketing Trainee and it was the best job I have had. That's why I am gonna apply for an internship at John Deere next year. They have their European headquarters in Mannheim, Germany, and that would be my first choice for an internship. But that is next year's thing so no need to worry about it now. Last Friday I also had my farewell party. It was really nice to see many of my friends before I go. Although many could not make it, but I will still try to see them before I leave.

Monday I got my travel insurance for the rest of my time in Japan cause my current insurance covers only 90 days. And then I met Joonas, who is going also to Oita University and will be my flatmate. We managed to book our ferry tickets from Osaka to Beppu for 27th of September. I finally filled the application for my international driving licence yesterday, but of course forgot to mail it before I flew to Budapest, Hungary. Well should take only couple extra days to get to Helsinki.

As said I flew yesterday to Budapest with my girlfriend. This will be my one week summer holiday that I did not have time in the summer. :) At least today it will be 26C so I think I can call this really a summer holiday. We are staying here at our mutual friend's (Zsófi) place who we met in Finland while she was doing her student exchange in Tampere. Her place is near the city center and its very nice apartment. So I might even have something interesting to write in coming days.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Maanantaina hankin matkavakuutukseni Japanin loppu ajalle.
